Earlier in 2009, widespread popular protests took place as a result of increasing federal spending and the culture in D.C. of rewarding failure. Massive amounts of tax dollars, increased deficits, unsustainable spending, risking the financial stability and future of ourselves, our kids and our grandkids, led over 1.2 million people to stand up and say enough is enough.

Here in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, our initial protest on April 15th was called the Tax Day Tea Party. We had approximately 700 people meet up at the FWB Landing to share common frustrations with both parties in our nation’s capital. The feeling that we are not being represented by anyone was prevalent. Dozens of local citizens from mayors to the homeless spoke to the warm, peaceful crowd.

Since that time, a core group of people dedicated to keeping the movement going have been meeting regularly to discuss important issues and planned how to grow the Tea Party.

The Fort Walton Beach Tea Party is dedicated to being an Action Group to hold our politicians accountable for their actions. Our core principles are to increase freedom at every opportunity, ensure policies are fiscally sustainable, taxes are low to encourage economic growth and prosperity, and, most importantly, renew the study and knowledge of the U.S. Constitution and its importance as the founding document of the United States of America.
