Job Description–Legislative Team
Job Title: Legislative Chair
Responsible to: Organization Chairman
Qualifications:
- Understands and supports the FWB Tea Party principles
- Understands the legislation process at all levels of government
- Knows how to get copies of legislative bills; to obtain information on and track bills and to contact legislators
- Is objective and concise
- Gives factual reports
- Has experience sufficient to understand the operation of a non-profit organization
Job Summary:
- Reports to members about issues affecting the community and the legislative activities at all levels of government
- Meets with local government officials (e.g., school board and city council members, county commissioners), if appropriate, to discuss Tea Party issues and concerns
- Meets with state and federal legislators, if appropriate, to discuss Tea Party issues and concerns
- Participates in legislative conferences and meetings
- Participates in legislation study groups and informal surveys of the issues, and attend Candidates’ Forums
- Works with other local community organizations, such as the League of Women Voters, to sponsor nonpartisan candidates’ forums preceding elections.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serves on the Executive Committee
- Maintains a list of the names, addresses, phone/fax numbers, and e-mail addresses for all elected representatives in the area: U.S. Senators, U.S. Congress member, State Senator, State Representative, county commissions, city council members, and school board members
- Establishes contacts with local individuals, groups, organizations and agencies to develop sources of information on local and statewide issues
- Invites legislators/policymakers/elected officials to visit/attend FWB Tea Party semi-monthly meetings
- Identifies issues of local need or special interest by informal survey of members or suggestions from the executive committee or members or other authorities
- Establishes a method for sharing Legislative Action Alerts with FWB Tea Party members
